Soil Mechanics

Soil Mechanics is a branch of engineering which deals with the study of soil and its relation to water and behaviour under different stress conditions.

The term "Soil Mechanics" was coined by Dr Karl Terzaghi.

As per IS 2809:1972, Soil is  defined as "Sediments or other unconsolidated accumulations of soild particles produced by the physical and chemical disintegration of rocks, and which may or may not contain organic matter".
